Still Life

Most of the still life works in this collection are painted from life, in multiple sessions. If Alla Prima studies were done, and are available, they are displayed in the  ‘Alla Prima’ collection.

Camox

Camox

Camox refers to the brushes I utilized for the background. Most of these have Trompe l'oeil images of still-life objects painted over the Camox background.

The Camox lettering flats were crafted from oxen hair, no camel hair. They were initially marketed as Camox Lettering flats but are now manufactured with synthetic hair.

During lettering, a small showcard pallet is employed to work the lettering enamel into the brush’s heel. These pallets were saved and reused repeatedly. Each iteration generates captivating layers of patterns in a completely unplanned manner, employing colors that would typically be avoided in a single painting. These palettes became inspiration for the backgrounds.

The tromp portion is executed independently of the background, approximately six months to a year after the surface has fully dried.
